World University Championships gold medalist Bhavtegh Singh Gill once again established himself as the shooter to beat in skeet, winning the gold medal by defeating Air India international pilot Fatehbir Singh Shergill 54- 51 in the finale on a cold, dark morning at Dr. . Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, Tuesday.
Bhavtegh managed the poor visibility better than everyone and was thus able to beat the best qualifier, Fatehbir (123). For Fatehbir, it was a commendable improvement from a score of 112, his previous best at the national championships.
“It was difficult to see the flash birds during my first final. I was so happy to score a perfect 50 in the last two rounds yesterday. Today was tough, but I’m happy to fight well and get the silver medal with so little experience in such a tough field,” said Fatehbir, who will captain his next flight to Toronto after Christmas.

In women’s skeet, Ganemat Sekhon beat Asees Chhina by four birds to win the gold medal.
“Every competition is important and I am happy with the effort,” said a beaming Ganemat.
Olympian and best qualifier Raiza Dhillon (122) settled for the bronze medal, ahead of Vanshika Tiwari, Shivani Raikwar and Yashasvi Rathore.
Raiza recovered well to win the junior gold medal by a margin of six points over Vanshika while Yashasvi won the bronze medal, ahead of Shivani, Agrima Kanwar and Risham Guron.
There was a bit of disappointment for Bhavtegh in the afternoon, as he was beaten 6-5 in the play-off after being tied on 52 for the gold medal against Ishaan Singh Libra in the final junior men’s. Munek did justice to his efforts by bagging the bronze medal, ahead of Zorawar Singh Bedi, Atul Singh Rajawat and Harmehar Singh Lally.
