D-Von Dudley says he was the victim of racist abuse from another WWE star. Dudley was a recent guest on Maven YouTube Channelwhere the duo looks back on the most racist moments in WWE.
“I encountered my own racism in WWE, I hate to say it, but I did it with some people that were in the office that were higher up. It was never Vince, it was never John Laurinaitis was never Michael Hayes, but there were people in that Attitude Era who basically said they didn’t like me because I was black,” he said. he declared.
Maven was stunned by Dudley’s revelation. The WWE Hall of Famer vowed not to name the racist person, but said the person in question was someone wrestling fans would be familiar with.
“I’ve said it to my face several times,” he added. “The person said he didn’t like me because I was black, and he told Bubba (Ray Dudley), you know, he started off by saying, ‘Bubba, you’re a good guy. I like you, I like you a lot. But, D-Von, I don’t know (Others told the racist person) D-Von is a good guy’ (the racist person replied) ‘But he’s black, You know ?’ I remember clenching my fist and Bubba felt it, saw me and grabbed me.”
Dudley said the incident happened right after he and Bubba Ray Dudley joined WWE in 1999, and recalled it happening during the opening of the WWE restaurant. The team legend remembers being angry but calmed down. He recounted another incident in which the aforementioned person recognized the other people at the table in the restaurant, which included Bubba Ray, Paul Heyman, Spike Dudley and Tommy Dreamer, but did not recognize D-Von. Heyman asked the racist person if he didn’t say hello to D-Von because he was black, which the racist readily admitted.
The racist person then spoke to D-Von and denied that he hated the WWE Hall of Famer, but after being told by D-Von about the various instances where he had been racist towards him, he walked away. Dudley previously revealed that the racist person was neither Michael Hayes nor JBL.
