WrestleMania 31 was memorable for a number of reasons, such as Sting’s WWE debut and John Cena’s fourth WWE United States Championship victory. However, what will be most remembered is what happened at the end of the series, when Seth Rollins, on what was one of the biggest nights of his career, cashed in the Money in the Bank contract and stole the victory from Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar will become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
During an appearance on “Overview with Chris Van Vliet“, Rollins looked at the party and described the mood backstage.
“I remember Michael Hayes is in the producer’s seat and Hunter (Triple H) and Vince (McMahon) are on the other side. I want to say there was a panic about the time because we were still on pay-per-view, so we must have been away at that time,” he recalls.
Rollins explained that because of this, WWE didn’t have the ability to top their show, which would have ruined the end of WrestleMania 31.
“With streaming, they’re great because of that, you have a small window and you’re not strict because the advertising model is a little different,” Rollins continued. “So it was like, by the time we had to leave, it was over. So I remember sitting there and thinking, ‘Oh, shoot, they’re not going to make it, we’re going to having to do this tomorrow,’ “That’s what I thought.”
However, he concluded that WWE handled the situation professionally, responding to the right signals, and that the show ended without a hitch.
