THE NBA postponed Wednesday night’s game between the New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks due to severe weather conditions in New Orleans. The date of the postponed match has not yet been announced, but it is not the only match impacted by the weather.
The Bucks were stuck in New Orleans until Thursday, and their Thursday night home game against the Heat was pushed back 60 minutes. Milwaukee will kick off against Miami at 8:30 p.m. ET instead of 7:30 p.m.
Louisiana, along with other southern states, was hit by a massive snowstorm on Tuesday, with some areas receiving up to 11.5 inches of snow. Parts of New Orleans saw 10 inchesand a blizzard warning was issued Tuesday by the National Weather Service. This is the first time a blizzard warning has been issued for south Louisiana.
Flights were grounded in New Orleans and highways were also closed for safety reasons as the region experienced an unprecedented weather event. Schools closed on Tuesday and are expected to remain closed until Thursday. The city brought 14 snow plows prioritize cleaning streets near local hospitals, like Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry turned to social media to urge people to avoid snowy and icy roads.
This is the third time this month that NBA games have had to be postponed due to weather events. The Lakers and Clippers have had several games postponed due to the devastating fires that recently broke out in Los Angeles. The Hawks also postponed a game against the Rockets after bad winter weather in Atlanta.
