The January 2025 transfer window is currently open and has just passed its first week in what could prove to be a crucial winter period in determining who will win the trophies and who will avoid relegation in their respective leagues. European football clubs can sign free agents even after the deadline, but only if they are not under contract with any other professional club. Agreements can also be reached before the summer between clubs and players on expiring contracts, which is why Mohamed Salah’s situation at Liverpool is so intriguing now. Ultimately, though, the January window is closing in on the deadline, which is Monday, February 3 this year.
