THE Texas A&M The basketball team’s experience showed up big in the second half, filling the Texas Longhorns offense. They held SEC preseason freshman Tre Johnson to 2-13 from the field and beat the Longhorns 80-60 for their eighth consecutive victory.
Even with A&M shooting just 2-19 from the three-point line, it didn’t matter as they dominated at the rim with 48 points in the paint and outscored their counterpart 39-27. Freshman transfers Zhuric Phelps and Pharrel Payne went to work in the second half and combined for 33 points on 11-14 shooting from the field. What started as a close game with both teams tied 37-37 at halftime slipped away from the Longhorns, resulting in a 20-point loss in the first two matchups this season.
The Aggies have bragging rights for now, but when they see Texas again in a few weeks, I would expect a much better Longhorn team to be on the field for a much closer game. That being said, Coach Buzz Williams and the Fighting Texas Aggies made a big statement to open conference play and hope to keep the momentum going.

1-0 is the perfect way to open conference play
It’s been a long time since the Aggies beat the Longhorns this much
The last time Texas A&M beat Texas by this much in men’s basketball? February 22, 1993… when the Aggies beat the Longhorns, 77-57, in College Station.
