There is nothing like a car touring match at the end of the season to help the male basketball programs in Akron and Kent State prepare for the mid-American conference tournament next month in Cleveland.
Akron (22-6, 14-1 in the Mac) will face Kent State (19-9, 9-6) Friday evening in Rhodes Arena after the zips beat the Golden Flashs 85-71 on January 31 at Kent.
Tipoff for the TV showdown on a national scale by ESPN2 is scheduled for 9 p.m. updates throughout the game.

What is the story between Akron and Kent State in male basketball?
Akron leads 84-82 in his series of all time with Kent State. John Groce has a 11-7 sheet as akron coach against Kent State and 15-12 in total against KSU (he was previously at the head of Ohio). Akron is 46-25 at home against Kent State.
UA has won its last four games against KSU. Akron won the three meetings last season, including 62-61 in the Mac tournament championship. With the victory, the zips captured the Mac automatic offer at the NCAA tournament, then lost 77-60 against Creighton in the first round of March Madness.
Akron and Kent State will each have two regular season games after facing each other. The two teams have already won Mac tournament squares. The tournament is scheduled from March 13 to 15 at Rocket Arena.
