Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin, is one of the most announced players of In the NHL history. The legendary striker has already engraved his name in history, but he still continues the goal record of Wayne Gretzky.
Ovechkin is about to become the leader of all NHL times, and he can pass the Gretzky brand from 894 before the end of the season. The Vedette of Capitals currently has 886 career goals after scoring an empty net goal in the third period of the victory of 4-2 Sunday against the Seattle Kraken.
The goal, his 33rd of the season, also scored the career point No. 1,600 for Ovechkin, making him the 11th player in the NHL history to reach 1,600 points.
He now needs nine additional goals in the 18 remaining Washington games to exceed Gretzky’s record this season.
The 2023-24 campaign turned out to be a mortal for Ovechkin where he scored 31 goals, his lowest total in a full season since he scored 32 during the 2012-13 season. Ovechkin only scored 24 goals in 2020-2021, but this season has been shortened due to the Pandemic COVID-19.
Ovechkin scored 42 goals during the 2022-23 season and collected at least 41 goals in 13 of his 19 NHL seasons.
Ovechkin has currently collected 1,600 points (886 goals, 714 assists) in his professional career. He made even more history in 2023-24 when he recorded an NHL 18th season of 30 goals, going from 17 for the honor of Mike Gartner. He now has 19 for his career.
At the rate of this season, given the health, Ovechkin would exceed “the big one” before the end of the regular season.
Ovechkin will probably continue to be a strength established on the best unit of power of capital, so there are many score opportunities. Obviously, he scored at a much better pace than a year ago, when he only recorded five goals in the first two months of the season.
