Auburn at the top of the AP Top 25 for the 8th consecutive week; N ° 6 St. John’s has the highest ranking in 34 years

Auburn and Duke remain at the top of the top 25 of the AP. The rest of the survey was a big clutter.

Auburn was the unanimous choice in n ° 1 for the second consecutive week, receiving the 61 votes from a media panel in the survey. The Tigers held first place for the eighth consecutive week after unbalanced victories on Ole Miss, then Non. 17 Kentucky.

Duke was n ° 2 for the second consecutive week after exploding Miami and Florida State despite the game without guard Tyrese Proctor due to a bone bruise in his left knee.

Houston’s n ° 3 set up a place after beating Texas Tech and Cincinnati, while Tennessee went up to n ° 4 after the last second of Jahmai Mashack of Jahmai, of Halfcourt to beat the Alabama 79-76.

Florida completed the first five, abandoning two places after losing against Georgia and defeated Texas A&M.

The Michigan State 8 joined Auburn and Duke as the only teams to have the same ranking as last week.

Growing red storm

St. John’s has completely managed the turnaround in his second season under coach Rick Pitino.

The Red Storm (26-4, 17-2big East) has not been to the NCAA tournament since 2019, but are about a lock to end the dryness after having won their first regular season of Big East in 40 years with a 71-61 victory against Seton Hall.

“We are just beginning,” Pitino told Madison Square Garden Force after the victory.

St. John’s also beat Butler and set up a place in this week’s survey at No. 6, its highest ranking reaching n ° 5 in 1990-1991.

Louisville n ° 14 took the biggest step of the week, climbing five places after victories against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh. Maryland n ° 13 rose three places after losing against Michigan State by three on the last second of the Holloman of Beyond Midcourt and beating Penn State.

N ° 22 Texas A&M had the greatest drop, losing 10 places after losing against Vanderbilt and Florida, extending its sequence of defeats to four games in a row.

No other team has abandoned more than two places.

Conference surveillance

The SEC continued its domination with three of the first five and the first eight in the top 25 this week. The Big 12 has three teams in the 10 and five best and five teams, while the Big Ten also had five teams in the survey. ACC has three, the Big East Two and American and West Coast conferences have a team each classified.
