The world n ° 1 Jannik Sinner defeated n ° 2 Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 Sunday to win the Australian Open for the second consecutive year. Sinner is the first Italian to win three great chelems because he also won US Open 2024.
The sinner dominated from the start and did not face a breaking point throughout the two -hour and 42 -minute match. It has been 80-6 since the beginning of 2024, which includes nine ATP trophies – three of these majors.
“We have worked a lot to be in this position and it is an incredible feeling to share this moment with you all,” Sinner told his team. “I know that part of the team is at home and my family, but it’s incredible to share these feelings with you. I know that Darren (Cahill) is probably your last Australian open as a coach and I am very, very happy to share this trophy with you.
Cahill, who joined Sinner’s team in July 2022, retired at the end of the 2025 season.
The rest of the Italian men has three great combined chelems, Nicola Pietrangeli winning the Open of France in 1959 and 1960, and Adriano Panatta won it in 1976. Sinner, 23, is also the youngest man to win in Melbourne Park Two years in a row since Jim Courier in 1992-1993.
He was the third grand finale in Zverev, but the German star still continues his first Grand Corse trophy. He qualified for the match for the title after the champion of slam 24 to 24 Novak Djokovic retired in the semi-finals due to an injury.
Zverev’s right blow is not a strong point and he was obviously fighting against Djokovic, but it turned out to be expensive against the sinner. He recorded 35 errors of the forehand and only three winners of the forehand throughout the match. Three of these errors occurred in the opening match. He tried to play aggressively and continued to come on the net, but Zverev never really found a way to really challenge the sinner.
“Congratulations to Jannik, you deserve it more,” said Zverev. “You are by far the best player in the world. I hoped that I could be more a competitor today but you are just too good, it’s as simple as that.”
