Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said on Tuesday that Star Harry Kane striker had improved with age after scoring one goal and installing another in a 2-0 victory in Bayer Leverkusen who saw them reserving their quarter-final of the Champions League.
Kane, who runs the scorer list of Bundesliga with 21 goals, scored his 10th goal from the Champions League of the season in the 52nd minute to put Bayern in front and then installed Alphonso Davies for a second strike from Bayern in the 71st.
The 31 -year -old England captain is the first English player to score 10 times in a single season of the European Cup.
“It helps when you have a better player who wants to run and fight for the team like a young player,” Kompany said about Kane at the post-match press conference. “I played against him as an adversary and he became better with age. He has a way to work on his performance.
“I trust his consistency and the way he works towards his game and with this quality, you always get your moments.”
Kane, who also scored twice in the first leg against Leverkusen, helped Bayern to a global victory of 5-0 and to equality in the quarter-finals against the leaders of Serie in Inter Milan.
“To beat this 5-0 team on two legs shows the type of team we are,” said Kane after the match. “We are now in the quarterfinals where Bayern Munich should be and we want to continue to push.
“We just want to enjoy it because it is not easy. Especially when you play your domestic rivals, there is a lot of pressure, there is a lot of intensity that enters there.”
Kane added that Bayern had not wanted to protect his advance of three goals against the first step, but I rather wanted to put Leverkusen under more pressure by creating chances early: “In the second period, we knew that they had to go out and try something and we punished them.”
Before last week’s victory, Bayern had failed to beat Leverkusen as the Bundesliga Leverkusen in their six previous games in all competitions.
Leverkusen also eliminated Bayern in the German Cup this season.
“These two victories, they do not decide the season, but we have a lot of respect for Leverkusen. We have done our job,” said Kompany.
“We did it well in the first 20 minutes and had the best chances. Our goal was to win the first half, then win the second half and we did it.”
