We are only a few days old in a free agency, but it is very clear that the Bears de Chicago entered the offseason with an objective above all the others: correct an offensive line which has been an absolutely massive problem in recent years. Chicago exchanged for Jonah Jackson then Joe Thuney, then signed Drew Dalman during the period of legal falsification.
All these movements have the head coach of the new Bears, Ben Johnson, quite drawn. (He did not mention Dalman in the quote below, probably because the new year of the league had not yet opened and he was therefore not officially in the team.)
“We want difficult and grainy and dirty individuals, and we feel pretty good with the two guys we have obtained,” said Johnson about Jackson and Thune on Wednesday, via the official team website. “‘Smart’ is a word that comes to mind, especially with interior players. We would like to have a certain versatility in our diagram, a multiplicity if you want. We have a few guys in the building now that we feel strongly can manage a variety of different concepts and diagrams that we could want to use each week.
“Beyond that, their game talks about themselves in terms of what the band says,” said Johnson. “The character, the integrity is first order. I can speak of the first hand with Jonah and (managing director) Ryan (Polish) can speak of the first hand with Joe. I am really, really excited to put these guys in the room. Combined with the coaches that we have already set up for this piece, I feel really good in the style of the game we have this year.”

The Bears did not necessarily target Jackson and Thune in the offseason, but they went in this direction once they saw how things were going to queue in the free agency.
“Obviously, that was not part of the plan when we were preparing for a free agency,” said the Poles. “I have always learned a little in recent years that you have to be on your guard for these things that appear, so when you correspond to the flexibility to do good things with our salary ceiling with opportunities, we were able to jump on it.”

The Bears desperately needed to repair this group – especially if they wanted to direct Johnson’s offensive. The multiplicity and versatility he has mentioned was basic foods of his system in recent years in Detroit, and you are not going to be multiple or versatile if you cannot block. And the Bears could certainly not block last year. You cannot develop your global quarter 1 n ° 1 either if you cannot block, and especially if you cannot block the rush to the middle.
With a new interior trio at the front and a pair of solid or better plated, as well as Johnson calling the pieces, there is hope that the Bears will finally be able to take off their attack.
