What you need to know
Miami and Boston College have been tied 5-5 since February 2019, but not for long. The two will face off in an ACC battle on Wednesday at 12 p.m. ET at the Silvio O. Conte Forum. The Hurricanes will no doubt be hoping to end a six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Miami fought the good fight in their overtime match against Mt St Mary’s last Saturday, but ended up with a less than desirable result. They suffered a 78-74 blowout in the loss column at the hands of the Mountaineers. The Hurricanes took an early lead (up by 12 with 1:49 left in the first quarter), but unfortunately, they were unable to maintain that momentum.
Despite the loss, Miami got strong performances from Matthew Cleveland, who had 19 points in addition to six rebounds and two steals, and Jalil Bethea, who had 17 points plus three steals.
Meanwhile, Boston College defeated FDU 78-70 on Saturday.
Boston College can attribute much of its success to Chad Venning, who went 8 out of 10 en route to 18 points plus five rebounds and four blocks, and Donald Hand Jr., who had a double-double with 29 points and ten rebounds. Venning’s performance made up for a slower game against SMU last Saturday. The team also received help from Dion Brown, who had eight points and eight rebounds.
Miami’s loss dropped their record to 4-8. As for Boston College, its victory brought its record to 8-5.
Looking ahead, Miami should win a close contest, except for the buzzers. This will be the first time they play as road favorites this season.
Miami fell well behind Boston College in their previous game in March 2024, losing 81-65. Can Miami avenge its loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll know soon enough.
