This winter, the Baseball Writers Association of America’s 2025 Hall of Fame The voting results won’t be revealed until Jan. 21, but that’s not stopping CC Sabathia from talking about his favorite hat choice if he votes for Cooperstown. Instead, the 2007 Cy Young Award-winning left-hander said he would “absolutely” prefer that his plaque feature a New York Yankees cap when asked about the possibility during a recent appearance at a charity event, according to the New York Daily News.

It should be noted that players do not have final authority in these situations. (You may remember that Andre Dawson attempted to change his plate cap last year.)

Still, Sabathia seems more likely than not to get his wish if elected. Not only has he spent more time with the Yankees (11 seasons) than the now Cleveland Guardians (7.5 seasons) or the Milwaukee Brewers (half a year). -season), he also accumulated better or comparable statistics. Sabathia won his Cy Young Award elsewhere, but that doesn’t seem to be a deciding factor.

Sabathia, 44, is registered to vote for the first time. Over a 19-year career, he compiled a 116 ERA+ and over 60 wins above replacement. He also appeared in six All-Star Games and won the 2009 World Series. Our first-time Hall of Fame vote-getter Matt Snyder recently explained why he considers Sabathia a Hall of Famer:

First of all, Sabathia was a very good blend of elite peak and longevity during which he compiled an impressive record of counting statistics. Second, with the continued evolution of starting pitcher usage, I think we should give bonus points to workhorses who not only racked up a tremendous number of innings compared to their contemporaries, but who also excelled in this area.

“I’m excited,” Sabathia said of the prospect of being inducted. “It’s something I never thought about when I was playing or dreamed of, but to have people consider me a Hall of Famer is exciting. We’ll see what happens.”
