Indian ace cueist Pankaj Advani won the coveted Songhe Singapore Open title with a 5-1 victory over local favorite Jaden Ong in Singapore on Sunday. En route to the final, Advani beat former IBSF snooker world champion Dechawat Poomjaeng of Thailand 4-3 in a thrilling quarter-final at the Lagoon Billiards Room. While the 5-1 scoreline in the final seemed lopsided, the first two rounds were won by the Indian who erased the colors from a deficit to edge the Singaporean each time and take a 2-0 advantage.
With a big score from Advani in the third, Ong had to step up his attack to give himself a chance of surviving in the final stages of this prestigious event.
A resurgent NGO has moved back one frame to be in the running. However, in the fourth, a brilliant snooker placed by Advani on the final brown allowed him back into frame and with a clean clearance from brown to black, Advani was a frame away from the championship.
In the final frame, Advani scored a 74-6 victory to claim the title.
Advani will defend his world billiards title in Doha in November.
