Former WWE “NXT” head coach Bill DeMott is often scrutinized for the way he treated talent during his tenure with the promotion, while others, like N.W.A.’s Thomas Latimer , instead praised his caring approach to coaching. During a recent interview on “Developmentally Speaking,” former WWE star Madman Fulton — known as Sawyer Fulton during his tenure — recalled his experience working with DeMott.
“There’s a lot of opinions about him, you know, I’m not going to sit here and pretend like I haven’t heard about the other guys and what they think of him or anything,” Fulton said. “To me, as a college athlete, Bill was a little bit like a college coach in that he liked to push you, push you, get you to move around and do things.” Despite this, Fulton admitted that DeMott wasn’t the nicest guy, but that he simply responded to him and actually enjoyed his training, and that they eventually got along.
DeMott commented on the criticisms leveled against him and his coaching style over the years. During an interview, the veteran provided a counterpoint to the allegations against him and noted that former undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns never complained under his watch. DeMott even noted that he had no idea that Reigns was a member of the Anoi’a family, and simply noted that he had the looks of a future star.
