Florida basketball suffered its first loss of the 2024-25 campaign on Saturday in the opening salvo of the Southeast Conference schedule. THE Alligators were overtaken by weapons Kentucky Wildcats106-100, inside Rupp Arena, ending a 13-game winning streak.
The Cats’ road loss was far from devastating, but it ended the Orange and Blues’ meteoric rise in the standings this fall. The USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll placed Todd Golden’s gang at No. 8 in its latest update, while the Associated Press poll also puts them in the same spot with an overall record of 13-1.
CBS Sports writer Kyle Boone, who updated his Rankings Top 25 and 1 regularly this season, responded to Florida’s loss by dropping it three spots to No. 9 — still in the top 10. “Voters should not — and probably will not — penalize Florida too harshly for fell on the road to the top 10. Kentucky team in a two-possession game,” he noted.

The top five schools remained unchanged in this update, the Tennessee Volunteers retaining first place, followed by Auburn TigersIowa State Cyclones, Duke Blue Devils And Alabama Crimson Tiderespectively.
The Marquette Golden Eagles moved up to No. 6, followed by Kentucky, UConn Huskies, Florida and Kansas Jayhawks, respectively, to round out the top 10.

The Gators host the Tennessee Volunteers at the O’Connell Center on Tuesday, January 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
