What you need to know
The Mavericks and Hornets have been tied 5-5 since January 2020, but not for long. The Dallas Mavericks take a road trip to take on the Charlotte Hornets on Monday at 12 p.m. ET at Spectrum Center. Both teams have worked hard to overcome obstacles in their previous battles and are surely both feeling confident ahead of this clash.
The Mavericks suffered a loss when they played away on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They won against the Thunder by a score of 106-98. This victory was a breath of fresh air for Dallas as it ended their three-game losing streak.
Even though they won, the Mavericks struggled to get the ball on offense and finished the game with just six offensive rebounds. They were demolished by their opponents in this department as the Thunder knocked down 14.
Meanwhile, the Hornets hadn’t done well against the Bulls recently (they were 1-9 in their previous ten meetings), but they didn’t let the past get in their way Friday. The Hornets had just enough and outscored the Bulls 125-123. For those watching at home, this is the closest victory Charlotte has recorded since November 21, 2024.
The Hornets relied on the efforts of Mark Williams, who had a double-double with 19 points and 19 rebounds, and LaMelo Ball, who nearly dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine assists. Ball’s night made it four straight games in which he scored at least 30 points.
Dallas’ victory improved its record to 23-19. As for Charlotte, they have performed well recently as they have won three of their last four games, which significantly improved their 10-28 record this season.
Going forward, the Mavericks are the favorites as experts expect them to win by six points. Bettors who pick them against the spread have some confidence (to put it mildly) as the team is sitting on a five-game losing streak when playing on the road.
The Mavericks won against the Hornets in their previous match in April 2024 by a conclusive 130-104. In that game, the Mavericks took a 69-47 halftime lead, an impressive feat they will look to repeat on Monday.
