What you need to know
Saint Louis prepares for its first Atlantic 10 game of the season on Tuesday. They and the Fordham Rams will face off at 2 p.m. ET at Rose Hill Gym. The Rams have home-field advantage, but the Billikens should win by 1.5 points.
After struggling with three straight losses, Saint Louis finally turned things around against William Woods on Saturday. They hurt the Owls with a clear 78-57 victory.
Meanwhile, Fordham entered last Saturday’s game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points) and they came away with even more momentum. They got an 87-83 W over the Great Danes. The Rams’ season wasn’t great last year, but it appears the struggles are behind us.
Fordham’s victory was a true team effort, with many players putting in strong performances. Perhaps the best of them was Matt Zona, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 15 points plus two steals. Another player who made the difference was Jahmere Tripp, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 14 points plus six rebounds and three steals.
Saint Louis now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Fordham, their victory was their fourth in a row at home, which improved their record to 8-5.
A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. Saint Louis has had no problem coming up with scoring this season, averaging 77.3 points per game. However, it’s not like Fordham is struggling in this department, as he has a 76.9 grade point average. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.
Saint Louis failed to finish off Fordham in its previous game in February and lost 67-65. Can Saint Louis avenge its loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll know soon enough.
