What you need to know
We have another exciting Atlantic 10 matchup on the schedule between the Fordham Rams and Loyola Chi. Hikers should tip at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday at Gentile Arena. After losing a game the Rams were expected to win, they now face the toughest task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.
Fordham just scored the most points of the entire season. They narrowly fell short to Massachusetts by a score of 120-118 on Wednesday. The Rams’ loss continues a disappointing trend for the team, making it their fifth in a row.
Despite their loss, Fordham saw several players rise to the challenge and make remarkable plays. Japhet Medor, who scored 25 points plus five assists and two steals, was perhaps the best of them all. Medor is heading in the right direction considering he has improved his point production for four straight games. Another player who made the difference was Jackie Johnson III, who scored 36 points in addition to seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Fordham broke the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. These were the most offensive rebounds they have posted since January 2024.
Meanwhile, Loyola Chi. They put up a good fight in their overtime game against Dayton on Saturday, but had a less than desirable result. They lost 83-81 to the Flyers on a last-minute layup by Amael L’Etang.
Like Fordham, Loyola Chi. lost despite the results of several players. Sheldon Edwards Jr. led the charge going 7 of 10 on his way to 19 points plus six rebounds. Additionally, Edwards Jr. also posted a three-point shooting accuracy of 62.5%, which is the highest he has posted since February 2024. Jayden Dawson was another key player, scoring 19 points in addition of five rebounds.
Fordham’s loss dropped their record to 8-10. As for Loyola Chi., they have struggled recently as they have lost six of their last eight games, which has significantly dented their 11-7 record this season.
A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. Fordham has had no problem running up the score this season, averaging 76.2 points per game. However, it’s not like Loyola Chi. difficulties in this department because they have an average of 75.9. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.
Fordham fell short against Loyola Chi. when the teams last played in January 2024, losing 65-61. Can Fordham avenge its defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll know soon enough.
