What you need to know
Nets fans have better hope that the team plays a hell of a game on Monday, because the odds are decidedly against them. They will face the Miami Heat in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Kaseya Center. Both teams suffered a loss in their last match, so they will have a lot of motivation to win the “W”.
Pundits predicted the Nets would be heading in after a win, but the Jazz made sure that didn’t happen. The Nets took a 105-94 hit in the loss column against the Jazz on Saturday.
Even though they lost, the Nets broke the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. These were the most offensive rebounds they have posted since April.
Meanwhile, the Heat’s recent rough patch got a little tougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 121-114 to the Magic. Miami led 63-38 in the second but couldn’t maintain the lead.
Brooklyn dropped its record to 11-17 with the loss, which was its third straight at home. As for Miami, their loss dropped their record to 13-13.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday’s game: The Nets have made deep shots look easy this year, averaging 14.9 threes per game. However, it’s not like the Heat struggle in that department, as they average 14.5. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
The Nets and Heat were neck and neck in their previous meeting in January, but the Nets came away empty-handed after a 96-95 loss. Can the Nets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll know soon enough.
