What you need to know
After two road games, Texas returns home. They and the Missouri Tigers will face off in an SEC battle on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET at the Moody Center. The Longhorns are expected to win (but not by much), so they better bring their A-game in this one.
Last Saturday, Texas suffered a dismal 84-60 loss to Florida.
Ze’Rik Onyema had a good effort for the losing team, notching a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. This dominant performance also gave him a new career high in offensive rebounds (four).
Texas struggled to work together and finished the game with just eight assists. Unfortunately, this is becoming a trend for them; They averaged 15.4 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last five matches they have fallen to just 8.6 per game.
Meanwhile, Missouri entered its game against Arkansas on Saturday with three straight wins, but it will enter its next game with four. They earned a comfortable 83-65 victory over the Razorbacks. 83 seems to be a good number for the Tigers since the team achieved a victory by the same number of points in their previous match.
Missouri can attribute much of its success to Caleb Grill, who went 7 for 10 en route to 17 points plus five rebounds and four steals. Another player who made the difference was Mark Mitchell, who collected 17 points in addition to five rebounds and two steals.
Texas has struggled recently as it has lost four of its last five games, significantly denting its 12-6 record this season. As for Missouri, its victory was its 14th in a row at home, which improved its record to 15-3.
Tuesday’s contest is shaping up to be a master class in shooting: Texas has been dynamite this season, shooting 38.2 percent from three per game. However, it’s not like Missouri is struggling in this department as they’ve made 37.9% of their threes this season. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
