Nayana de Telangana completes the golden hat -trick at KHELO India winter games
At just 15 years old, Nayana Sri Talluri de Telangana has marked the story by winning a hat -trick of gold medals in fast skating at the Khelo India winter games after obtaining the first yellow metal in this edition 2 of the competition here Friday.
Nayana, who won the same medal in the under -17 category last year, dominated the short female track event of 500 m, obstructing 1: 01.35 seconds. She left behind her competitors from Karnataka and Maharashtra, continuing her sequence of victories from Kiwg 2023 in Gulmarg.
“It was a golden hat -trick for me since I won in Gulmarg in 2023. I feel very good,” Nayana told Sai Media.
Nayana’s success is the result of building his growing experience. She had shot two gold medals at Kiwg 2024, which presented both under 17 and 17 categories, and won a 3000m female relay in the short -term speed skating championship in 2024 in Jakarta.
“(In Jakarta), there were participants from different countries, which is great, but playing in our own country is entirely different. This year, I’m back on the ice for the first time, and it’s a nostalgic feeling to be back in Ladakh, “she said.
The Tamil Nadu guru, Harshan H, 14, made his solid debut during his first long Kiwg track, finishing second.
Harshan followed the Harshith K of Karnataka, which won the second gold of the day at Gupuks Pond, with Sachin Singh of Haryana taking third place.
Although Harshan had a solid performance, the thin air of Ladakh affected his performance.
“I could not do my best,” said Harshan, adding that the surface of the Gupuk was also difficult to manage, because he is used to skating on artificial ice.
In 2019, Harshan set up a bronze in the open event in the under 10 category organized by the Ice Skating Association of India.
Harshan also participated in the third winter games of Khelo India in Gulmarg in short speed skating in 2023.
The ice hockey competition also proves to be a learning curve for teams like Haryana, Maharashtra, Chandigarh and Rajasthan.
The best teams like Army, ITBP and Ladakh have so far had a smooth navigation in the competition.
