Manhattan – Basketball of the state of Kansas is finally back in the column of victories.
It was not always pretty, but the Wildcats took a hot start, then leaning on the stifling defense to go back to each attempt to return from Colorado on Sunday to win a 65-56 victory in Coliseum Bramage.
With the victory, K-State (14-15, 8-10 Big 12) ended a sequence of four consecutive defeats and maintained Colorado (11-18, 2-16) without victory on the road at 0-9. The Wildcats still have two regular season games, going on the Cincinnati road on Wednesday before finishing at home against Iowa State on Wednesday.
David N’Guessan collected 21 points and eight rebounds to lead K-State, Brendan Hausen adding 11 points and dug McDaniel 10 to go with seven assists. RJ Smith led Colorado with 11 points, while Bangot Dak and Sebastian Rancik each had 10.
K-State never dragged into the match, taking control with a race at the start of 10 points to break 2-2 equality. The Wildcats led 33-22 at halftime and stretched it to 17 in the second period before Colorado was a late race.
