Washington’s capital and Tampa Bay lightning honored the victims of the flight of 5342 in their match on Saturday afternoon. The two teams wore an sticker honoring the people affected by the tragedy, and the capital welcome “Legacy on Ice” for the benefit of the families of the victims on Sunday.
Before the confrontation on Saturday afternoon, the capitals announced that the teams would wear special decals that had an artistic skate and a hockey skate inside a heart. It also includes the date of the accident on January 29.
This day, an American Airlines flight carrying 67 people collided with a military helicopter just outside Ronald Reagan National Airport. Everyone on board was killed, including many members of the figure skating community.
“American figure skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were unfortunately aboard the American Airlines Flight 5342 flight, which collided with a helicopter last night in Washington, DC,” American figure skating in a statement. “We are devastated by this indescribable tragedy and closely hold the families of the victims in our hearts.”
The capitals organize “Legacy on Ice” on Sunday to collect funds for the families of victims and relatives. The two -hour program will star in current and former artistic skating champions paying tribute to those who died in the accident. Ticket information can be found on the Capital Website.
