Ruben Amorim said he was more under pressure at Manchester United that Angel Postcoglou was faced with Tottenham Hotspur because he works for “a bigger club”.
With United and 13th and 14th Spurs in the Premier League table, the two managers are under a meticulous examination. But before their meeting on Sunday, Amorim insisted on the fact that he was under-pressure due to the intense projector at Old Trafford.
“I am a big postcoglou angel fan,” said Amorim.
“I can understand the link between me and angel, we have the same problems. With all the respect I am due, I am in a larger club with greater pressure.”
Amorim has managed to win four of his 13 championship games in charge since he succeeded Erik Ten Hag in November.
Meanwhile, Postcoglou only supervised four championship victories since the beginning of November and last week saw his team which was poured from the two national cup competitions in the space of four days.
“It’s a good guy,” said Amorim.
“A very good coach, he wants to play football in the right way. We know that when we choose this kind of profession, it’s a good thing, but then you have to feel this pressure when you don’t win.
“Each match until the end of the season is a big match for us, we have to win whatever happens, we have to win and improve our way of playing football.”
Amorim hopes that United would rebound quickly for his last outing of the Premier League which allowed them to lose 2-0 against Crystal Palace.
However, the Portuguese coach has selection problems after undergoing new training problems this week.
“It was a good week until two days ago,” said Amorim.
“We have had some problems. We have no players, we have one or two problems but we are waiting. We have a player who is sick, so we will see the team on weekends.”
