Head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Manchester United have triggered a one-year extension to Harry Maguire’s contract. The 31-year-old defender joined the club from Leicester City in 2019 and his contract was due to expire this coming summer, but it will now last until June 2026. Maguire has made 222 appearances, scored 12 goals and won two major trophies. as the Red Devil so far: the 2023 Carabao Cup and the 2024 Emirates FA Cup. And the central defender harbors ambitions for more success in the future.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield, Amorim confirmed to reporters the news of Harry’s one-year contract extension. Ruben also admitted that another player was close to signing new terms.
“Amad is close, Harry Maguire, we will trigger our option. I spoke with him (Harry) this morning and told him he needs to improve on the pitch, we need him a lot. Plus , he has to improve as a player. We all know the situation he had here but we need him a lot at the moment, so we will, fortunately, trigger the option for him.
Harry has made seven appearances under Ruben so far and his ability to play in a three-man formation – a formation he has regularly experimented with with England – has allowed him to impress, notably in the recent 2-0 win. 1 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. . He also wore the captain’s armband in the absence of Bruno Fernandes.
When asked if he was a key player, Ruben continued: “When you look at our team, we are hungry for leaders on the pitch. He is a leader, he has to improve this part, he has to improve his game, so we are happy to continue.
