What you need to know
After two road games, N. Illinois returns home. After both enjoying some extra time off, they and the East-West Phantoms will dust off their jerseys to face off at 7 p.m. ET Monday at the Convocation Center. These two teams will be looking for a pick-me-up after considerable losses in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, things couldn’t have been much worse for N. Illinois as they lost 81-60 to Illinois State.
This defeat does not tell the whole story, because several players had good matches. One of the most active was Quentin Jones, who collected 27 points. The team also got help from Kailon Nicholls, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 12 points plus two steals.
Meanwhile, the recent rough patch between East and West got a little tougher on Dec. 6 after their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They were completely outplayed by Western Illinois on the road and fell 96-49. One positive for the Phantoms, at least, is that this is the most points they have scored all season.
Unsurprisingly, given the score, East-West struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with just four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Western Illinois struck out 20.
N. Illinois dropped its record to 3-8 with the loss, which was its seventh straight on the road. As for East-West, their defeat brought their record to 0-4.
