The former Basketball Star of Pearl-Cohn and Tennessee Vols Ron Slay was announced on Monday as a member of Tennessee Sports 2025 Class of the renowned temple.
Slay, who is analyst on SEC Network and is co-host of the afternoon sports talk show “3HL” on WGFX-FM, was surprised by the announcement of the family and colleagues while it was In the air at the radio station.
“Ron Slay’s passion for basketball game and his dedication to excellence made him one of the most exciting players to wear Tennessee Orange,” said Brad Willis, Executive Director of Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, in a press release. “His leadership on and off the field, as well as his contributions to sport in Tennessee, make him a deserving member of the fame of fame.”
Others in the 2025 class include: Chris Woodruff, Deon GrantDoug Mathews, Derrick Mason, Stephen Gostkowski, Larry KenonPriscilla Gary Sweeney, the late Ronnie Robinson, the late Phillip Clark, Tony Allen, Elston Turner, George Pitts and Bob Brown. The full class will be released in the coming weeks.
Slay was an artist from all states and Mr. Basketball finalist in Pearl-Cohn before transferring to Oak Hill Academy to Virginia for his senior season in 1998-99. The Tennessean named Slay to his basketball team for boys from the 1990s in all decades in 2024.

In Tennessee, Slay was a fans favorite and the 2003 dry year player after having an average of 21.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
After having carried out thefts with several appearances at the NCAA tournament, Slay played professionally for more than a decade in Italy, Spain, Israel, Portugal, France, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
Slay was appointed a 2017 Basketball Legend and the Tennessee Basketball Vols All Century team.
