Peterborough 2-2 Wrexham (February 26, 2025) Analysis of the game

Wrexham missed a golden opportunity to play a final at the Wembley stadium after losing Peterborough United On the penalties in the semi-finals of the EFL trophy.

The Welsh side was 2-0 before visitors fell in the second half to make 2-2 to force the match to a penalty shootout, which they won 4-2.

“We threw the chance to go to Wembley,” said Wrexham coach Phil Parkinson, Sky Sports. “Two really bad goals (authorized), especially the second. All we have to do is get the ball out of the box, face it and we are in Wembley.”

Modou Faal opened the score in the 34th minute for Wrexham, holding his marker to climb the ball on the goalkeeper from the outside.

Less than five minutes later, George Dobson added a second.

Peterborough withdrew a goal halfway through the second half thanks to Malik Mothersille, before Bradley Ihionvien marked a spectacular equalizer in the 91st minute.

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin missed his opening shot, before Peterborough goalkeeper Jed Steer made two stops during the shooting to help his team at Wembley.
