What you need to know
The Miami Heat’s road trip will continue as they take on the Portland Trail Blazers at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday at the Moda Center in the Rose Quarter. The Trail Blazers suffered a loss in their last game and will look to turn things around against the Heat, who picked up a win.
The Heat are headed into this one after bettors pegged last week’s low/under at 222.5, but even that proved too high. They got a 97-92 W against the Jazz on Thursday.
Several players had strong performances to lead the Heat to victory, but perhaps none more than Jaime Jaquez Jr., who went 7 of 11 en route to 20 points plus seven assists and seven rebounds. Jaquez Jr. continues to roll, beating his previous point total in each of the last four games he has played. Duncan Robinson, on the other hand, was considerably less useful: he went 0-5 from deep.
Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers had a bumpy road last season, and unfortunately for them, the road hasn’t been any smoother so far this season. They suffered a 117-111 hit in the loss column at the hands of the Mavericks. The loss hurt even more as Portland led 87-75 with 2:04 left in the third.
Miami’s victory improved their record to 19-17. As for Portland, their loss dropped their record to 13-24.
Saturday’s game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: the Heat haven’t given up the ball easily this season, averaging just 12.4 turnovers per game (they’re ranked fifth in total turnovers per game). It’s a different story for the Trail Blazers, as they have an average of 15.6. Given the Heat’s considerable advantage in this area, the Trail Blazers will need to find a way to close this gap.
It was all rosy for the Heat against the Trail Blazers in the teams’ last game in March 2024, as the team took a 142-82 victory. In that game, the Heat took a 74-40 lead into halftime, an impressive feat they will look to repeat on Saturday.
