What you need to know

The Thunder have played three games at home but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET at the Moda Center in the Rose Quarter. One look at the odds and it’s safe to say the Thunder aren’t losing any sleep ahead of Sunday’s game.

Last Thursday, the Thunder were within reach but could not reduce the gap as they lost 121-115 to the Mavericks.

The Thunder’s loss came despite a quality game from Jalen Williams, who went 11 of 19 en route to 33 points plus seven assists and four steals. Additionally, Williams also posted a 57.9% field goal percentage, which is the highest he’s posted since December 2024. Aaron Wiggins, on the other hand, was considerably less useful: he passed 0 to 6 at long distance.

Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers had already won three straight (a stretch in which they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They got a 102-97 W over Charlotte. Portland trailed 37-24 with 9:36 left in the second quarter, but they still came back for a handy five-point victory.

The Trail Blazers’ victory was a true team effort, with many players putting in strong performances. Perhaps the best of them was Anfernee Simons, who scored 27 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals.

Even though they won, the Trail Blazers struggled to work together and finished the game with just 17 assists. They’re 4-8 when they just don’t pass the ball.

Oklahoma City’s loss ended a nine-game home winning streak and dropped them to 36-8. As for Portland, its victory was its third in a row on the road, which improved its record to 17-28.

Sunday’s game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: the Thunder haven’t given up the ball easily this season, averaging just 11.4 turnovers per game (they’re ranked first in total turnovers per game). It’s a different story for the Trail Blazers, as they have an average of 15.5. Given the Thunder’s considerable advantage in this area, the Trail Blazers will need to find a way to close this gap.

The Thunder defeated the Trail Blazers 109-99 in the teams’ last matchup in November 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the team won’t have home-court advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change of location makes a difference.

Odds

Oklahoma City is a big favorite with 13.5 points against Portland, according to the latest NBA Odds.

The line drifted a bit toward the Thunder, as the game opened with the Thunder as an 11.5-point favorite.

The over/under is 225.5 points.
