Pranjali Dhumal clinched bronze in the women’s 25m pistol event, to take India’s tally to 13 medals (three gold, six silver and four bronze) after day four of the 2nd World Championship. World Shooting for the Deaf 2024 held in Hannover, Germany. Pranjali qualified for the final after setting a deaf world record and a deaf world championship record of 571. In the final, she made three out of five shots in the eighth series to edge Lana Skeledzija by one only point to secure the bronze medal. She finished with a score of 29 behind Ukrainian pair Sofiia Olenych and Halyna Mosina who took gold and silver respectively.
Anuya Prasad finished fifth in the final with a score of 21 after qualifying with a score of 558. India’s third shooter, Vedika Sharma, completed the qualification with a score of 473. The Indian Deaf Shooting Team , made up of 16 members, is off to a good start. at the 2nd World Shooting Championship for the Deaf.
Anuya Prasad won gold in the women’s 10m air pistol while India also finished on a double podium in the men’s 10m air pistol with Abhinav Deshwal winning silver and Shubham Vashist winning bronze while the duo also teamed up with Chetan Sakpal to clinch team silver in the event, according to a press release from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
The championship continues till September 7, 2024 and Indian shooters will compete in Air Rifle and Air Pistol disciplines. The team, which includes top shooters like Dhanush Srikanth, is also accompanied by a translator and coaches Preeti Sharma (pistol) and Sanjeev Rajput (rifle).
Earlier on Friday, the NRAI and ITC Maurya in New Delhi hosted a star-studded evening and felicitated the Indian Olympic shooting contingent.
The three Olympic winners (Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale) and other participants were felicitated with awards and mementos. The evening ended with the Olympics and shooting themed cake cutting ceremony.
