The door is ostensibly open to the Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House after winning the Super Bowl. Unlike the last time.
Talking with journalists on TuesdayPresident Donald Trump confirmed that the Eagles would be extended an invitation, praised their performance against the Kansas City chiefs in the Super Bowl Lix, then asked a staff member to take care of the invitation.
“They will be (invited), we have not yet done it, but we will be. I thought it was an excellent performance by them and absolutely they will be extended an invitation. Would you do it right away? We will do it right away, we will do it today. They deserve to be here and we hope to see them.”
The Eagles have already said that they will go if they were invited. There is a story between the team and the president, however, and not only because he chose the chiefs to win because he loved Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany.
The Eagles were one of the many teams to face Trump during a visit to the White House during his first administration. It was a question of setting up a visit following their victory over the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl LII, but that was ignited in June 2018, and the catalyst remains a subject of debate.
Trump’s White House announced for the first time that she canceled the invitation of the Eagles, Trump himself saying that it was due to the team that remained in the locker room during the national anthem, at the time when it was one of the most controversial questions in the NFL.
While some Eagles players had criticized the NFL policy forcing players to stand on the field for the anthem, There was no known case of players who remained in the locker room for the hymn this season. (They did it two years later, however.)
A subsequent espn report revealed that the Eagles had only planned to send a small contingent, with five players or less, to meet Trump and that most, if not all, of the black players of the team opposed.
Trump’s White House continued to overtake, saying that the Eagles “abandoned their fans” while Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey, Democrat, invited the team to Congress For an alternative event.
The Eagles have undergone significant changes since this incident, with a new head coach at Nick Sirianni and only four players from the Super Bowl LII team: the right platform Lane Johnson, the defensive winger Brandon Graham, the botter Jake Elliott and the long snapper Jake Lovato.
The owner Jeffrey Lurie remains however. He Refused to answer when asked if the team would be open to a visit to the White House before the Super Bowl Lixsaying he wanted to win first. His team certainly did it with a blow of 40-22 of the chiefs, and it was later reported that the Eagles were indeed open to making the trip.
