The star of Maryland Big Man Derik Queen presented a historic statistics line last weekend which was not carried out by a first-year player in university basketball for at least 20 years. The queen recorded 29 points, 15 rebounds and five assists to become the first recruit of basketball in division L to record at least 25 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in one match.
Queen was a major reason why Maryland has a successful season. The terraaps arrived in the survey of the top 25 of the AP last week for the first time in almost two years and retained their place in the ranking despite a mid -week defeat for Ohio State last week.
After Maryland lost her first match in almost two weeks against Buckeyes, Queen helped his team bounce back with a great victory over Rutgers. The queen dominated the dynamic duo of Rutgers of Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper 29-24.
After the match, Queen argued why he should be a Big Ten recruit of the year after playing against two best candidates (Harper and Bailey) to win the award.
“But obviously, we are all in a first year of the race (for) of the year,” The queen told journalists after the match. “On the field, it’s competitive, and I just wanted to put myself and let him know that I want the first year of the year.”
First year student of the week: Derik Queen, Maryland
Welcome to The Frosh Watch, our weekly ranking of the five most impressive first-year students in university basketball. CBS Sports has once again associated with the United States Basketball Writers Association and its Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year price to present this everyday feature film. Each week, we will start by announcing the national winner of the first year of the week. The Fotw cycle takes place on Tuesday-Monday.
Former player No. 12 of the recruitment class of 2024 per 247sports was up to media threshing, then some during his first year with Maryland. Queen is on average 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 29 minutes per match.
Queen certainly raised his recovery during his first -year campaign. In the latest CBS Sports simulation project by Gary Parrish, Queen should go n ° 23 in total. Queen could embark on the conversion of the lottery – if he has not already done it – at the end of the season.
