A police officer said he felt “depreciated and upset” following an incident involving Chelsea Sam Kerr striker, but insisted that he “did not invent something to get a Line accusation, “a court on Tuesday heard.
Kerr, Australian captain, is judged accused of having caused harassment racically aggravated to the metropolitan police officer Stephen Lovell in southwest London in the early hours of January 30, 2023.
It is alleged that Kerr, 31 One of them was sick and that one of them broke the rear window of the vehicle.
The women told the police that the driver had “acted crazy” by driving very quickly, stopping several times and accelerating again, locking them in the car and refusing to let them go for about 15 Minutes said the Kingston Crown Court when the trial continued on Tuesday.
At the police station, Kerr would have become “abusive and insulting” to Lovell, the appellant “stupid and white”.
Kerr, who is one of the best women’s football players in the world, agrees to make the comments but denies that they come back to the charge.
The crown prosecution service initially decided not to teach Kerr, the court learned.
He was put to Lovell that he only provided only a statement that Kerr’s comments had caused an alarm or harassment after this CPS decision.
In his first declaration to the CPS, the officer made no mention of the commentary “stupid and white” having an impact on him, said the jury.
Police submitted a request to examine the CPS decision not to continue, and he replied that the result would be limited to apology, the court said.
The prosecutors then asked for additional evidence and a second declaration from Lovell was provided in December 2023 mentioning the alleged impact.
He read a section of the declaration to the court which said that the comments made him “shocked, upset and (on the left) feeling humiliated”.
The accusation was later authorized in December 2023, almost a year after the incident.
Grace Forbes, defending Kerr, said during the counter-examination: “The only reason you made this declaration was that the Crown prosecution service refused to authorize a criminal accusation to prosecute Ms. Kerr.”
He replied “no” before agreed that the officers had faced with the opportunity to continue in August 2023.
“Throughout July and August 2023, the Women’s World Cup was playing,” said the defense lawyer.
Lovell replied: “If you say, yes.”
Forbes said that “Ms. Kerr was playing for her country” and “she would have been everywhere on television – do you remember to have seen her?”
The officer denied having seen the television striker before the defense lawyer says “this person who made you feel unimportant”.
She added: “You were determined to continue this person, right?”
Lovell said “yes” and Forbes asked “by criminal courts?”
The officer said “yes”.
During the re -examination of the prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones, Lovell told the jury that being called “stupid” had made him feel “demeaning and upset”.
Jones asked if his race had “relevance as long as you could see what was going on”, and Lovell said “no” and later added that the reference to him was white “upset me, I suppose”.
The prosecutor asked: “Is it correct, PC Lovell, that you just did something to get a load on the line?” He replied: “No, I did not invent to get a load on the line.”
