Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist Sumit Antil and Asian Paralympics silver medalist Bhagyashree Jadhav will be the Indian flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympics. “Antil and Bhagyashree have been consistent performers over the years. They will be the Indian flag bearers in the athletes’ parade of the Paris Paralympics,” Indian Paralympic Committee (PCI) chief Devendra Jhajharia told PTI . Sumit, a javelin thrower from Haryana, won the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics with a world record throw of 68.55 meters in the F64 category.
He then won a gold medal at the World Paralympic Championships last year and broke his own record at the Asian Paralympics with a throw of 73.29m.
Shot putter Bhagyashree, who competes in the F34 category, won a silver medal at the Asian Paralympics. She is also a medalist at the FAZZA World Cup.
The Indian contingent comprises 84 athletes across 12 disciplines for the Paralympic Games scheduled from August 28 to September 8.
India collected 19 medals in the last edition in Tokyo.
