The Northern Dakota star, Treyson Eaglestaff set a score record for the summit league tournament on Friday with 51 points in a victory of 85-69 quarter-final to pass the southern Dakota in the tournament semi-finals. The Eaglestaff career evening produced the most points of a player in a match this season and is the total highest points of a male university basketball player since Darius Lee by Houston Baptist scored 52 points on March 5, 2022 in a four-hour match.
“Probably my favorite game of all time,” Eaglestaff said to the Grand Forks Herald After the match. “This 51 … I just want to give credit to the coache staff. They have been with me since the first day, 16 years with my first offer. But in the game, I am just played in basketball. I did not worry about all the other things that were going on. A good victory. Good team team. We stayed down and did what we had to do.”
The 51 Eaglestaff points broke a score record for the summit league tournament previously established by Bill Edwards of Wright State of 38 points on March 8, 1993. These are the most scored points in a non-time match since Markus Howard de Marquette scored 51 against the USC on November 29, 2019.
The Northern Dakota was an outsider of 7.5 points in the match, so the Hawks coach Paul Sather said that he had set up a new game in the offensive and ran it again and again to exceed the jackrabbits.
“We put a new piece this evening”, “ Sather said. “It was essentially to give the ball to Trey, then move away. He made big games.”
Eaglestaff finished the shooting of the match 15 out of 28 with eight made 3s out of 18 attempts of 3 points in the victory.
The Dakota of the North goes to the semi-finals of the tournament where he will play St. Thomas on Saturday evening at 10:30 p.m. he on CBS Sports Network.
