Liga president Javier Tebas said Spanish champions from Real Madrid on Thursday played the victim and had “lost his head” after attacking arbitration in the country. Los Blancheos was beaten 1-0 during the relegation by fighting Espanyol on Saturday and then sent a furious letter to the Spanish Football Federation which exploded the country’s refereeing as “rigged” and “completely discredited”. The leaders of the League, Madrid, were upset, the Espanyol defender, Carlos Romero, avoided a red card to hack the striker Kylian Mbappe and then scored the winning goal.
“Real Madrid wants to harm the competition (La Liga), not just the arbitration group,” Tebas told journalists.
“They built a story of victimization and I think that the icing on the top was the letter they published the other day …
“The problem was blown away, they lost their heads.”
Tebas was expressed after having attended a meeting with the Liga clubs, the Spanish Federation (RFEF) and the representatives of the Spanish tree structure (CTA).
The Spanish media said that Real Madrid refused to attend the meeting, which took place to discuss football improvements in the country.
CTA president Luis Medina Cantalejo suggested, among other measures, “the audio recordings of VAR criticisms are broadcast live, provided that FIFA authorizes it,” the federation said in a statement.
The chief of the RFEF, Rafael Louzan, whose appeal against a ban on seven years of public judgment was confirmed earlier Thursday, welcomed the meeting as the beginning of a new era.
“Whether it’s the beginning of a different new era, we have the opportunity to create it together,” said Louzan.
