For many “WWE NXT” stars, a major goal is to make it to the main WWE roster. As WWE alumnus Tommy Dreamer points out, however, there is an inherent downside, especially for today’s generation of talent.
“When people (talk) about that main roster, I would be scared because, especially if I’m a woman, that roster is stacked. And then where do I fit in? That’s the hardest part You know that, you’re on a loaded roster in AEW,” Dreamer said. “Broken open radio” referring to her co-host and former AEW Women’s Champion, Thunder Rosa. “How do I get my time on television? Where am I going to fit into this brand to get noticed, to get a boost, to get this, to get that. NXT is a very, very safe place for representation on television because they do a great job of integrating everyone.
Former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Zoey Stark previously echoed Dreamer’s sentiments, noting that the main roster was particularly loaded. As such, she feared being “lost in the shuffle” during her own summons. Nonetheless, Stark moved forward with confidence in his abilities and eventually joined “WWE Raw” in May 2023, with WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus as his on-screen mentor.
Currently, the “NXT” brand is led by Shawn Michaels, who serves as Senior Vice President of Creative Talent Development. Meanwhile, WWE’s main roster is primarily led by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who recently welcomed the company into its Netflix era.
