The United States and Washington Spirit Trinity Rodman striker said it was a matter of time before playing abroad, but added that it was focused on the next NWSL season that starts on Friday.
In the past year, there has been a growing trend in NWSL players who leave for Europe. In January, three of Rodman’s USWNT’s USWNT teammates – Naomi Girma, Crystal Dunn and Jenna Nighswonger – were sealed in Chelsea, Paris Saint -Germain and Arsenal, respectively.
Rodman, who has spent his entire career in Spirit since his writing in 2021, could soon follow suit.
“I have always thought of playing abroad at some point in my career,” she said in an exclusive interview with Futbol d’Espn W.
“I think I would be booty if I retired and that I hadn’t done that. So it’s just a question when I think. But yes, just focused on this year and we’ll see what’s going on when the time comes.”
Girma’s move to Chelsea from San Diego Wave was the most prominent NWSL release. The $ 1.1 million agreement that brought it to Western London made it the most expensive transfer in the history of women’s football, but the costs did not surprise Rodman.
“No, it’s (exceptional for years. It’s not like it came. So I’m so proud of her and I’m so happy,” she said.
“She is so humble, the most humble Humane I have never met. She never wants to talk about herself and even when she plays, she is so imperturbed by everything. But yes, it is not unexpected what happened. I was like” Oh, classic, the biggest transfer costs “.
“I am delighted to see where it leads her and how more she grows up.”
Meanwhile, Rodman said that she expects additional growth in the mind in the next NWSL season. Spirit lost last season’s final against Orlando Pride and she thinks they will bear the lessons of this defeat in the new season.
“I think that in this last match, with which we had trouble was to find someone in the team on which to rely in terms of mentally locking,” she said.
“And I was 100% could have been this person, but I think that the whole season with whom I was fighting so much and I had been calm the whole game. But I do not know this game … It was not me to be that voice.
“And I think our team had bad communication and we should have made someone intensifying energy and pushes the tempo. So I think it will be a huge part for us this year.”
Spirit is launching his season against Houston Dash on Friday.
