What you need to know

We have another exciting Conference USA game on the schedule as the Sam Houston Bearkats and Kennesaw State Owls are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at the KSU Convocation Center. The Bearkats are no doubt hoping to end a five-game losing streak on the road.

After struggling through three straight losses, Sam Houston finally turned things around against FIU on Saturday. They came away with an 81-74 victory over the Panthers.

Lamar Wilkerson stood out offensively in the game going 10 of 15 on his way to 29 points. Additionally, he also posted a field goal percentage of 66.7%, which is the highest he has posted since February 2024. Marcus Boykin was another key player, scoring 17 points.

Meanwhile, Kennesaw State found itself well behind Western Kentucky on Saturday and lost 85-69. The Owls have now received an “L” in back-to-back games.

Kennesaw State’s loss came despite a quality game from Adrian Wooley, who had a double-double with 27 points and ten rebounds. The game was Wooley’s third in a row with at least 22.4 points. Braedan Lue’s dreadful 0-5 three-point shooting was less helpful for Kennesaw State.

Kennesaw State struggled to work together and finished the game with just eight assists. This is the fewest assists they have posted since February 2024.

Sam Houston’s victory improved their record to 8-9. As for Kennesaw State, their loss dropped their record to 9-7.

Keep an eye on the arc for Thursday’s game: Sam Houston has been dynamite from deep this season, hitting 39.4 percent of his threes per game. It’s a different story for Kennesaw State, as they’ve made just 31.3 percent of their threes this season. Given Sam Houston’s considerable advantage in this area, Kennesaw State will need to find a way to close that gap.

Sam Houston is hoping to defy the odds on Thursday as experts believe they are headed for a loss. Bettors who pick them against the spread have some confidence (to put it mildly) as the team is sitting on a five-game losing streak when playing as a road underdog.

Odds

Kennesaw State is a slight 1.5 point favorite against Sam Houston, according to the latest college basketball odds.
