Half-time report

After a tough road loss in its last outing, Maryland looks much better today on its home field. A win is still up for grabs for either team after one quarter, but Maryland leads Nebraska 37-35. This match is much closer than the previous match between the two men, which was decided by 22 points.

If Maryland continues to play like this, their record will drop to 14-5 in no time. On the other hand, Nebraska will have to settle for a 12-6 record unless they turn things around (and quickly).

What you need to know

Maryland is 8-2 against Nebraska since January 2019, and they will have a chance to extend that success on Sunday. The two will face off in a Big Ten battle at 12 p.m. ET at the Xfinity Center. The timing is certainly in the Terrapins’ favor as the team has eight straight home wins while the Cornhuskers have been hit with three straight road losses.

Maryland fought the good fight in its overtime contest against Northwestern on Thursday, but ended up with a less than desirable result. They lost 76-74 to the Wildcats on a last-minute jump shot by Nick Martinelli. The Terrapins failed to live up to their potential and fell short of the advantage oddsmakers thought they had entering the game.

Julian Reese gave a good effort for the losing team, collecting 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks. His performance made up for a slower game against Minnesota on Monday.

Meanwhile, Nebraska entered its game against Rutgers on Thursday undefeated at home, but there’s a first time for everything. Nebraska fell just to Rutgers by a score of 85-82. After achieving such a high score, both teams will likely have additional defensive drills coming up.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Juwan Gary, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. He struggled to find his footing against Purdue on Sunday, so this was a step in the right direction. Brice Williams was another key player, going 8 of 15 on his way to 21 points.

Even though they lost, Nebraska broke the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. These are the most offensive rebounds they have posted since December 2023.

Maryland’s loss dropped its record to 13-5. As for Nebraska, their loss ended a 20-game home winning streak dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-5.

A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. Maryland has had no problem running up the score this season, averaging 84 points per game. However, it’s not like Nebraska struggled in that department, as its average was 77.2. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.

Looking ahead, Maryland is the favorite in this one, as experts expect to see them win by 9.5 points. This contest will be their fourth in a row as favorites (so far in this streak, they are 1-2 against the spread).
