What you need to know
If the oddsmakers’ predictions hold true, the near future looks bright for North Carolina. They will finish 2024 at home by hosting the Campbell Fighting Camels on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET at the Dean E. Smith Center. The Tar Heels strut with some offensive power as they have averaged 85.7 points per game this season.
Last Saturday was close, but North Carolina ultimately received the gift of a 76-74 victory from a reluctant Tar Heels team. The victory came thanks to a strong push starting at the 12:52 mark of the second half, as they faced a 59-43 deficit.
Ian Jackson was the offensive star of the game going 8 of 13 on his way to 24 points. His performance made up for a slower game against Florida two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Campbell suffered a crushing 77-55 defeat at the hands of Longwood last Wednesday. The Fighting Camels have now taken an “L” in back-to-back games.
Unsurprisingly, given the scoreline, Campbell struggled to work together and finished the game with just six assists. They were demolished by their opponents in this department as Longwood posted 17.
North Carolina has been on a roll lately, winning three of its last four games, improving to 7-5 this season. As for Campbell, their loss dropped their record to 5-7.
Sunday’s contest is shaping up to be a disjointed game: North Carolina has been breaking the glass this season, averaging 38.8 rebounds per game. It’s a different story for Campbell, as they only average 31.5. Given North Carolina’s considerable advantage in this area, Campbell will need to find a way to close that gap.
Oddsmakers had a good idea of the line for this one, as the game opened with the Tar Heels as 26.5-point favorites.
The over/under is 155.5 points.
