What you need to know
Panthers fans have better hope that the team plays a heck of a game on Sunday, because the odds are decidedly against them. Their road trip will continue as they take on the Oklahoma Sooners at 2 p.m. ET at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Panthers are strutting around with some offensive power as they have averaged 76.8 points per game this season.
Prairie View is heading into this one after bettors set last week’s low/low at 156, but even that proved too high. The game between them and Rice on Sunday wasn’t a total blowout, but with Prairie View losing 64-46 on the road, it was damn close to turning into a draw. This was the Panthers’ lowest scoring game so far this season.
Despite the loss, Prairie View had strong performances from Nick Anderson, who had a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds, and Braelon Bush, who scored five points.
Unsurprisingly, given the score, Prairie View struggled to work together and finished the game with just eight assists. This is the fewest assists they have posted since February.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma put another one in the bag on Sunday to maintain its perfect season. They were clear winners by a margin of 89-66 over Hundred. Arkansas. The Sooners have made a habit of sweeping opponents off the field, having won four games by 21 points or more this season.
Among those leading the charge was Duke Miles, who went 11 of 17 on his way to 29 points plus two steals. He’s heading in the right direction considering he’s improved his point production for three straight games. Another player who made the difference was Jalon Moore, who went 7 of 13 en route to 17 points plus five rebounds and two steals.
Prairie View’s loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record to 1-11. As for Oklahoma, their victory improved their record to 12-0.
A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. Prairie View has had no problem putting up the scoring this season, averaging 76.8 points per game. However, it’s not like Oklahoma struggled in that department, as its average was 82.6. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.
Oddsmakers had a good idea of the line for this one, as the game opened with the Sooners as 29-point favorites.
Oddsmakers are expecting fireworks from the offense and have pegged the over/under at a high of 161 points.
