The North Carolina Tar Heels take the basketball court today for the first time in eight days, as they take on the state’s Campbell Camels at 8 p.m., in their final non-conference tune-up before going into all-ACC play on New Year’s Day. Day.
UNC’s most recent result was a 76-74 upset win over a ranked UCLA team on Saturday, December 21 during the CBS Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden. North Carolina freshman Ian Jackson showed why he deserves a starting spot, scoring a career-high 24 points in his first collegiate game in his hometown.
Campbell (5-7) is in his second season as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, after leaving the Big South Conference. The Camels have just three wins against Division I teams, while struggling against opponents like Ohio State (44-point loss), Evansville (13-point loss) and Morgan State (10-point loss).
Tonight isn’t a trap game, but we saw the Tar Heels get off to a slow start against smaller opponents at home. Just look at UNC’s first game against Elon, when the visiting Phoenix led late in the second half, before a barrage of UNC goals decided things.
North Carolina will face Campbell for the first time in program history, even though the two schools are an hour apart. The Camels only have one player averaging more than 10 points per game (Jasin Sinani, 12.4), while Jackson, RJ Davis, Seth Trimble and Elliot Cadeau all average double figures.

UNC vs. Campbell Prediction, Picks, Odds
North Carolina gets one last tune-up for ACC play against the Campbell Camels, who are struggling at 5-7 heading into tonight’s game. Campbell is in only his second season of play in the Colonial Athletic Association, moving from the smaller Big South Conference.
The Tar Heels haven’t played since the Dec. 21 loss to UCLA in the CBS Sports Classic, but even with the rust, they should be able to beat the Camels handily. UNC starts slow, as Campbell shoots a mindless percentage in the first five minutes, but RJ Davis leads a barrage of 3-pointers that anchors the North Carolina victory.
