Liverpool will aim for a sixth victory in six UEFA Champions League matches against Girona in Catalonia on Tuesday. The Premier League leaders saw the Merseyside Derby with Everton canceled this weekend and were therefore able to rest while the Spaniards traveled to Real Madrid in La Liga.
Girona lost key parts of last season’s success and struggled to replicate anything close to that incredible form which saw them finish third. Artem Dovbyk, Savinho, Eric Garcia, Yan Couto and Aleix Garcia have all moved on, leaving Michel with a totally different team to the one he had last year and 22 points from 16 games puts them eighth in the top flight .
The hosts’ first ever meeting with an English team will be against a Liverpool side who are coming off the back of failing to play bitter rivals Everton this weekend. Storm Darragh forced the postponement of the EPL clash, so the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park will have to wait.
Still top of the Premier League by at least four points with their game in hand, Slot’s Reds were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United last midweek, ending a seven-game winning run. Liverpool have multiple goals in each of their last nine games in all competitions and a 100% winning streak in Europe.

Championship stage so far
Girona have already beaten Slovan Bratislava this year but lost to Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and Sturm Graz. Currently 30th, the Spanish team risks collapsing outside of Europe if it remains below the 24-team mark. Meanwhile, Liverpool lead with two points from 36 teams and have already booked at least one playoff spot with three games remaining. The Reds are on a two-match winning streak against Spanish opposition, having failed to win any of eight previously.
Team News
Girona: Arnau Martinez is back but Viktor Tsygankov will be out so Yaser Asprilla can start while Bryan Gil and Arnaut Danjuma look to get the start. Yangel Herrera is also back available while Jhon Solis could return after missing the Real defeat.
Girona XI possible: Gazzaniga; In Martinez, López, Krejci, Gutierrez; Martin, Romeu; Asprilla, Van de Beek, Danjuma; Miovski.
Liverpool: Alexis Mac Allister is suspended in the Premier League and Champions League and is therefore unavailable with Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota, Kostas Tsimikas, Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley all absent. Curtis Jones could partner Ryan Gravenberch without Mac Allister while Mohamed Salah can set a new personal best for UCL assists by scoring one more.
Possible Liverpool eleven: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Fork.
Prediction
This one should be pretty straightforward for Liverpool who will continue to march towards the knockout stages and will do so with minimal hassle from Girona who are simply making the most of their remaining time in Europe. Take: Girona 0, Liverpool 2.
