South Florida had a four-game homestand but will have to dust off its road jersey soon. They and the Wichita State Shockers will face off in a Battle of the American Athletic at 7 p.m. ET Monday at Charles Koch Arena. The Bulls strut with some offensive power as they have averaged 78.5 points per game this season.
Last Tuesday, South Florida earned a 75-69 victory over East Carolina. The over/under has been set at 143.5 points, so good job for the punters; You were right on the money.
South Florida can attribute much of its success to Kobe Knox, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 18 points.
Wichita State’s season wasn’t great last year, but it appears the struggles are behind us. They opened the new year with an unsuccessful 91-85 loss to Temple. The Shockers have struggled recently against the Owls, as it was their third straight losing game.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Justin Hill, who scored 25 points to go along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also received help from Quincy Ballard, who had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wichita State broke the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. These are the most offensive rebounds they have posted since March 2024.
South Florida improved to 8-6 with the win, which was its third straight at home. As for Wichita State, their loss dropped their record to 10-4.
A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. South Florida has had no problem running up the score this season, averaging 78.5 points per game. However, it’s not like Wichita State struggled in that department, as its average was 78.7. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.
South Florida didn’t have too much breathing room in their game against Wichita State in their previous matchup in January 2024, but they still came away with a 72-68 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Florida since the team won’t have home-court advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change of location makes a difference.
