Former world junior champions Ankushita Boro (60kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) registered comfortable victories to reach the quarter-finals of the second World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers on Wednesday. National champion Arundhati Choudhary (66kg) also registered a convincing victory to advance to the pre-quarterfinals. Boro faced Asian champion Rimma Volossenko of Kazakhstan. But the Indian was not hampered by her opponent’s stature as she attacked her punches from the first round and never really looked in trouble throughout the fight to secure a 4-1 verdict .

World Championship bronze medalist Nishant beat Thailand’s Peerapat Yeasungnoen 5-0 to reach the knockout stages.

Earlier in the day, Choudhary began her 66kg campaign with a clinical first round against Stephanie Pieneiro of Puerto Rico.

She was slightly conservative in the second round, consolidating her position before dominating the next round to earn a unanimous 5-0 verdict in her favor.

Narender Berwal (92 kg) also fought hard against Ecuador’s Gerlon Gilmar Congo Chala, but it was not enough to advance to the next round.

The 2022 Asian Games bronze medalist started slowly in the first round and was then forced to play catch-up. He did well to impress three of the five judges with his punches in the second and third rounds of the round of 32.

However, its efforts were not enough to close the overall deficit.

On Thursday, Sachin Siwach (57 kg) will try to seal his place in the quarter-finals against Turkey’s Batuhan Ciftci.
